Yanqi is a specialist when it comes to intercultural understanding. Born and raised in China, she has been living in Germany for many years now. Not only is she familiar with the German way of thinking and working, she also knows the Chinese working world and the mindset prevailing there. Yanqi manages projects focusing on the development of LED components for certain applications, such as video walls or monitors. Her tasks include forming the best team, and planning and executing development – from the first idea right up to series production maturity. “This sounds simple in theory”, Yanqi comments. “Yet in practice, we must try out and test a lot of things. Only when we’re sure that the result of our work fulfills all the requirements for high-tech products can we release it for production.” Furthermore, she appreciates having the opportunity to communicate often in her native tongue – with Chinese colleagues in Malaysia. “We have a huge plant in this country and almost all the engineers working there are compatriots of mine”, Yanqi explains.
Yanqi has been with ams OSRAM for six years now. After graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering from a Chinese University, she completed her university education with postgraduate studies in Kassel, Germany, and holds a PhD in Optoelectronics. Afterwards, she found her first job in Austria before finally joining ams OSRAM. “I’m highly specialized. Since I didn’t want to focus on research, but work in industry, ams OSRAM was a natural choice for me – and the best employer without a doubt.” For Yanqi, the company feels like home, and her team colleagues are somewhat like a family to her. She speaks fluent German effortlessly with her colleagues in Regensburg. English is also one of her working languages.
Yanqi enjoys being part of a young team with a company operating in a highly dynamic industry. “It feels great that people believe in my skills and abilities, and entrust me with tasks”, she stresses. Living up to the challenge of achieving targets together with her team is great fun for her and motivates her every day. “And it always feels great to see that one of the products I developed is manufactured later in millions.”
